The Gospel

Yesterday, I spent the time watching The Gospel.

It was about two men who grew up in church and were going to full time ministry. One of them was the Senior Pastor's son. However, one day, everything changed. The Senior Pastor's wife was ill and was in critical condition. The son prayed to God for miracles to happen. However, the wife still passed on. The son blamed God and his father for spending so much time with others but not his own family.

Years passed and this son became a secular pop singer whereas the other men became a pastor in the same church where he grew up. As the Senior Pastor was getting old and was having prostate cancer, he decided to recommend this man to be the next Senior Pastor. During one board meeting, this man suggested that a new building be built so that more people could come to church and also a new environment. But money was an issue. So the son suggested doing a concert to raise funds and that he could help. As the money poured in, the Senior Pastor became very ill till he died. The son wanted to do more for his father but because he was not the Pastor in the church, he was literally thrown out of meetings by the man. The man, on the other hand, became self-glorified and used the name of God for his own gain. This was finally revealed to him by his wife. As the man sat in his living room thinking what his wife had said, he began to repent. He began to turn his eyes back to God.

At the same time, the son began to look to God again. As he visited the church again, he remembered his times spending in the church. He decided to return to God and re-invited him to his heart.

Sometimes, I feel that we are like the man. We use God's name to glorify our selves. People around us may not know it but we know it ourselves. We can give ourselves excuses but God looks at our heart. No matter what we do, we must never forget the roots. Where we come from and what He has done for us cannot be replaced. May God forever be my focus.

3 movies seen on 16 Aug 2009

Today, I have watched 3 movies, showing Alex Fong and Sheryl Tang and they are all about love.

1) Marriage with a Fool
In this movie, it talked about a Ah Wah & Bo (of course Alex and Sheryl) how they got married. During their first year of marriage, many things happened. Bo was immature, using divorce as a threat to the relationship whenever the couple had quarrels. Ah Wah alway gave in. One day, the relationship turned so bad that Bo wanted quits but pretend to be of good terms in front of her parents-in-law. But paper cannot cover fire. The parents came to know what happened. While Ah Wah was nursing the pain, he went to find his ex-neighbour whom he had lost touch but bumped into each other during his wedding day. There, he had a sexual relationship with this ex-neighbour. In the meantime, Bo met a guy but they had only friendship. Then came a time when Bo changed job to be an airstewardess. What happened to Ah Wah then? Well, his ex-neighbour left him because she found that she was not the one he truly loved. So he wanted to return to his wife. Husband and wife finally patched up. However, they both had a secret keeping from each other. Husband still sent the ex-neighbour messages without the wife's knowledge while wife still sent letters to the man she met when her marriage was at the rocks.

2) L for Love, L for Lies
As the name of this movie suggested, this movie is about how couples lied to each other on the pretext of love. There is a conman, Henry played by Alex Fong. He came to befriend Bo and had a business deal with her. She wanted him to con Kiki, whom she treated as a friend and who stole her boyfriend away from her. Bo believed that Henry would not lie to her even though he was a conman. One day, they had initmate relationship. After that, Bo began to brew soup for him almost everyday. Her friends warned her not to do that because he was a conman afterall. But Bo believed otherwise. Finally, Kiki came to know about the business deal that Bo had with Henry. Kiki wanted Henry to play back at Bo. Henry did and Bo was heartbroken. Soon, Bo's ex-boyfriend returned to Bo and managed to pick up business at his desert shop. Their relationship became better. Actually all these while, Henry was secretly taking revenge for Bo. He set a trap to make Kiki owe lots of money and then he returned the $100 thousand dollars that Bo paid him to con Kiki. He also wanted to turn over a new leaf. However, things are not rosy. His ex-gang friend betrayed him for a kidnapped case. The triad boss sent his men to beat Henry up. Henry was on his way to Bo to express his feelings when this happened. During the fight, Henry was hit on the head by a nail on the wall and his arm was broken by the triad men. With all his strength, Henry walked to see Bo. However, Bo did not notice him. Henry died in the end.

3) Love Is Not All Around
This is yet another movie about lying in love. Da Le played by Alex was a player. He used to like the main actress but the actress had eyes only on Vincent. This was after a few years later. Then he suddenly turned up and the actress began to have mixed feelings. This is because at this point in time, the actress met with another man who is a doctor. He likes her and she also has some feelings for her. One night, both men appeared before the actress and both left without having a night with her. The story then centred around the actress' good friend played by Linda whose husband had an affair. Later, both friends went to a hotel to catch the husband. But instead the actress found that the doctor was holding a lady's hand. She was very sad. Even though he sent her a message, she abruptly told him not to disturb her anymore. As the good friend did not catch the husband, these 2 good friends began to quarrel. They then split up and lost touch. Some months passed. When the good friend met with the actress again, they patched things up and this was when the good friend reminded the actress that certain things must be spoken but not asked. So the good friend decided to find Da Le and expressed her feelings for her. Da Le and this actress then began their relationship. In actual fact, Da Le had been two-timing his girlfriends and whenever the girlfriends met, he would say that the girl was his sister.

Review:

In all these movies, one thing struck out. It seems that in a love relationship, every one is out to cheat each other. They do not seem to really know what to do when catch in a triangular relationship. What's more! They say that they would change but in the end, they are just hiding their true trails. I kinda of wonder whether the director for these movies are just using human's logic to treat relationship or a kind of fantasy that in all relationships, there will tend to be a cheating case. Whatever it is, I seem to keep my distance from such relationship further. If I am in the relationship with someone I love, will that someone betray my trust and cheat on me? In (3), it was said that sometimes what we saw might not be the truth and what we did not see seemed to be the truth. Maybe..... Will I find true love? OR will my love life be an empty white sheet of paper?

School Days Anime

Yesterday, I watched the School Days anime and found some similarities in life.

In the show, the school boy, Maroto was an innocent boy initially. He likes girl whom he also sees in the train while on his way to school. One day, his classmate who sits beside him in class saw the picture he has taken on his handphone and asks whether the girl is someone he likes. According to hearsay, keeping the picture of the person you like in the handphone will make the person yours soon. So this classmate begins to tease him. Then comes a time when this classmate gets to know the girl. They become friends and this classmate begins to introduce this girl to the guy. As both the girl and Maroto like each other, their relationship occurs.

However, Maroto is so innocent that he does not know what to do in a relationship. So he gets the help of this classmate who helps him to practise initimate moments that he should develop with the girl. Things get a bit too intimate that Maroto has sex with this classmate. Even though this classamate keeps saying that the acts are to help him to practise with the girl, yet in actual fact, she is in love with him. Well, though Maroto goes out with the girl, his eyes are with this classmate. Soon, he is torn between this girl and this classmate.

As time passes, Maroto becomes so deeply involved in sexual intercourse that he begins to have sex with almost every girl that he meets at school. This is despite the fact that the girl is his girlfriend. Then one day, he breaks up with this girl to be with the classmate who helps him. Things start to turn nasty. The girl cannot take the blow and becomes mentally ill. She calls him but the line was rejected. However, she keeps talking as if he is on the line with her. Then, one day, the classmate becomes pregnant and asks Maroto what he is going to do about it. Maroto denies that he is responsible and begins to shun this classmate.

As news of the pregnant get around the school, many girls begin to shun Maroto. As Maroto is at a loss of what is going on, he meets the girl again. So he brings her home. At his home, the classmate turns up. She demands Maroto to make a decision but Maroto chooses the girl instead. Heartbroken, she leaves him......with a plan in mind.

One day, the classmate receives a message from Maroto to ask her to abort the baby. This is the last straw that this classmate can take. She visits Maroto and offers to brew tea when Maroto wants to serve her tea. While at the kitchen, she sends Maroto a message. In the message, she writes 'Sorry', followed by many blank lines with an ending 'Goodbye'. When Maroto goes to his room to pick up the phone to read the message, this classmate comes in and stabs him to death. After that, she leaves. Not long after, the girl comes in and finds Maroto dead.

At night, the girl sends a message to the classmate using Maroto's handphone, asking her to meet her at the rooftop of the school. The classmate finds a bag in the bench when she arrives. She has a small confrontation with the girl and when she opens the bag, she finds Maroto's body being chopped. When she turns toward the girl, the girl uses the knife that she uses to kill Maroto to kill the girl and chop her up. After that, the girl carries the bag and goes on a cruise. In the ending episode, she is carrying Maroto's head while sleeping.

In this story, I find something quite similar in life.

1) I remember hearing some people say that onces a guy has sex with a party, he will want to have it more and he does not seem to be able to stop it. Just like Maroto, I believe that this does happen. Especially when Maroto is in the age where everything is curious to him. He cannot control his sexual desires and let it overtake him. Instead of being loyal to his girlfriend, he goes around having sexual encounters with whoever that says she has feelings for him. This ultimately leads to his death.

2) Being unfaithful has its consequences. Of course, not all consequences will lead to death. But we cannot deny the fact that failed relationships due to unfaithfulness can lead to death. News of such things do appear in newspapers and some are just kept in the dark. Some consequences lead to sad stories like having AIDS. So, the morale of the story is to stay faithful.

3) There are many temptations in this world. One of the them is lust for the flesh. That is why there are pronography websites, magazines and movies; all for the sake of satisfying the desires of men. Also, some people think that quick bucks can be earned through these. Whatever it is, we must never forget that God can help us to overcome the temptations in this world. He sent Jesus to be with us, to go through what we go through but without sinning. So Jesus should be our example in life.

Lord, teach me not to be overwhelmed by the temptations of this world. Let lust of the flesh be destroyed in me. Let me not look or think of anyone lustfully but in all that I do, may I give You the glory and honor. As I go into a relationship with a guy, please help us to be faithful with each other and I pray that in times of temptation, we will look up to You for strength. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
